Bill Ellis, our father, began guiding in the 50's and raised us in Nabesna. We learned to guide at an early age, and have developed a love and respect for this country. We have continued successful seasons because of careful planning. With over 30 years of experience, we are well able to provide a professional, quality Alaskan hunt. This is our business and life, not just a side-line. We do all of our own flying and have thousands of hours of flying experience in this area of Alaska. We are FAA Part 135 approved and all aircraft receive annual and 100 hour inspections. They are high quality, high performance aircraft (Piper Supercubs) which have proven themselves to be best suited to operate in the Alaskan bush. We have always put safety first, resulting in an excellent safety record. We know the country well, and each landing strip and camp. Our base camp, and year-round home since 1960, is located at Mile 42 Nabesna Road. Most clients rent a car after arriving in Anchorage. It is a scenic 300 mile, 6-7 hour drive from Anchorage to Nabesna, so we recommend a good night's rest before embarking on the journey. It is necessary to arrive the day prior to the first day of the hunt in order to be flown out to one of the twelve cabin camps or one of the dozens of spike tent camp locations scattered throughout our guiding areas. This gives us the flexibility of going where the game is.
Hunting licenses and tags are available on-line at www.admin.adfg.state.ak/license/ for advance purchase if you so choose. This alleviates some of the last minute paperwork that is necessary before heading out to the field. There is a shooting range to ascertain that everything is shooting straight before heading out to the field.
It is best if you come with an attitude that you are going to enjoy yourself. We give ourselves to our clients 100%, to make their time with us as enjoyable and memorable as we can. If you come with cares and worries weighing you down, it makes it hard for us to do our job. If you are willing to work hard, go a day or two without some creature comforts, and if you trust your guide, you will have a great hunt!
